FDPC Day 29 layers

FASHION DAILY Photo Challenge
Day 29. layers

The art of layering can be a very tricky one to master.  I have always enjoyed adding layers onto my outfit but has it always looked flattering...no.  It takes some practice and a couple hit and misses.  What do you want to keep in mind when adding layers?  Start off with the tighter clothes closest to your skin.  That doesn't mean the article of clothing needs to be skin tight, it just means not to try and squeeze a tight tank top over a looser fitting blouse.  As you add things on top of one another they should be continuing to get looser fitting.  When adding a layer, try changing up the type of fabric and style.  For instance try putting a loose, lace vest over a denim button up, or a knit cardigan over a silk tank.  This creates some more interest and contrast to the outfit.  The most difficult type of layering, I think, is the layering on the bottom half of your body.  You want to try not to chop up the lines of your legs too much with what you create with your clothes.  The more you break up the lines of your legs horizontally with  color, a pattern, or another garment, it immediately shortens the look of your legs.  So its best to keep the layers below the hips to a minimal.  Its also fun to add layers with accessories such as a scarf or a necklace.  Make sure when you are deciding to add an accessory you check the number of items you have already layered.  The general rule is to layer three items per outfit.  So if you have already layered four layers just with your clothing its probably going to be sensory overload if you add accessories on top.  That does not mean there cant be an exception to the rule, I would just recommend keeping it to a minimum while mastering the art form!! : )
With this outfit I started with a pair of skinny jeans from Gap and added from there.  I choose this denim, almost dress from Forever 21 to drape over top and then added possibly my most favorite vest to  hang over top.  I purchased this vest last year in Taiwan from a street market.  Surprise, surprise!   I went back and forth for a while deciding whether or not I wanted to show off the waist line by adding a belt.  I decided I wanted a more loose, casual look so I added a necklace instead!  The necklace has some brown pieces in it so I decided to find a similar color shoe to tie it all together!
The key to layering is to make it look comfortable and easy.  If it feels tight and restricted it probably looks that way.  Just start to play!

FDPC Day 28. glasses

FASHION DAILY Photo Challenge
Day 28. glasses
Glasses add so much personality to your style.  Whether you keep them sleek and traditional or bold and funky they are just as much a part of you as everything else is in your wardrobe. When you are talking to people they are, or should be, looking at your eyes.  So when you are wearing glasses that prohibit people from seeing your eyes, they are most likely going to be looking at your glasses and they become a part of your story.  But remember they are still there for a purpose and that purpose it to shade your eyes from the sun.  Wait... really? : ) YES people, when you are not in the sun and you are, indoors perhaps, it can be very disrespectful to wear your sunglasses.  I understand that sometimes they are a security blanket for us to hide behind but I beg you to take them off when they are not serving their purpose.  PHEW!  Glad I got that off my chest.  Just sharing a little pet peeve of mine.. thats it!
Anyway, the lenses on my sunglasses are actually glass, so I get very self conscious when I carry them around.  Even though I spent less then $10 on them when I was shopping at a night market about two years ago in Shanghai, I dont want them to break!  They remind me of the Beatles, just a little bit larger and I adore them!  They help make me smile and not take myself too seriously!!

FDPC day 27 tailored

FAHION DAILY Photo Challenge
Day 27. tailored

I know, I know, baggy, draped, one size fits all clothes are soooo in BUT, there is something undoubtably timeless about a tailored article of clothing.  I am usually not the person who goes to a tailor to alter every piece of clothing because I find that when something doesn't fit right it is an opportunity to get crafty.  Now I am starting to understand the difference in making something work, and making something FIT!  Going shopping can sometimes be the most devastating experience.  Not being able to find something that fits your body can make you feel extremly self conscious.  What you have to remember is the clothing that you find in stores only come in a few sizes.  Those sizes are NOT going to work for everyone, and that doesn't mean something is wrong with you.  It's not worth struggling over jean after jean after jean in the dressing room.  You owe it to yourself to find a tailor and get those staple items for your wardrobe custom fit for your body!  Now that said, these shorts I am wearing were not custom tailored for me.  These shorts just happened to be a freak incident where they just fit like a glove.  I was in Buenes Aires last year and I was shopping at a flea market searching for something different (whats new) and I came across these shorts.  Now at first I must admit I thought they might have been for kids.  But I wanted to try them on anyway because they were too darn cute.  So in the middle of the street I pulled on these shorts over my clothes and sure enough the heavens sang as I zipped the front up because they just fit to perfection.  It is very rare for that to happen and I know I will never forget that moment.  You know what I'm talking about.  I bet you have something in your closet right now that you have had that same experience with.  It really makes your day.  Wow, I just got really worried for myself thinking about how exciting those moments are to me.  ehhh I'm sure theres others out there like me : )

FDPC Day 26.floral

FASHION DAIL Photo Challenge
Day 26. floral

You can never have too much floral!!  Well as long as they are put together correctly of course!  It seems to be that every time I go on a trip I come up with the best combinations for an outfit.  When dealing with only select items in a suitcase I am forced to work with less then usual and usually it makes me create outfits that I would have never foreseen.  This outfit I actually put together for the first time in March when flying home to surprise my Dad for his 60th birthday.  Because the floral pattern on the skirt, from goodwill of course, is so large it makes it easy to pair with another floral pattern.  There are just enough hints of red in this tube top from urban outfitters to make it go together but not look too matchy matchy.  I added a skinny belt on the waist to tie in the color of the wedges I wanted to wear without drawing too much attention to it.  I absolutely love the cut out in these wedges that I bought from Target years ago.  Who would have thought Target really hits the target sometimes!! haha As for accessorizing I wanted to keep it simple.  Keeping a clean neck line while showing off the clavicle is very sexy so I just thought to leave it bare an add a nice dangly earring to showcase since my hair was pulled back.  Dont be afraid to double up on the floral when putting together an outfit.  Look for complimentary colors and making sure the patterns are not too strong on their own.  Think playful!

FASHION DAILY Photo Challenge Day 25. charming

FASHION DAILY Photo Challenge
Day 25. charming
Todays word, charming, made me want to look up the definition before I chose my outfit.  Clearly we all know what the word implies but what does the dictionary say it means exactly?  Going off of thefreedictionary.com charming means - to be alluring or pleasing.  Well, when you just say that, you could translate your "charming" inspired outfit in all sorts of ways.  Some might not be quite appropriate for sharing, but today I chose to go with a soft, girly, charming, which is a little more traditional.  These charming, bow accent shoes are from DSW.  What a great store!! The sale rack there is so invigorating.  With all the different color coded sale stickers with the extra % off, it almost turns into a challenge.  I become determined to find an amazing shoe with the purple tag, I think thats the extra 80% off color.  Anyway if you haven't checked it out... its a must.  Moving on to the light pink sheer blazer from H&M I purchased last year sometime.  It's a perfect cover up for a more sophisticated charm look for the summer.  It has the shape of a blazer, with the mobility of a scarf, and the perfect amount of fabric to keep you cool in any summer heat.  Underneath my favorite blazer is this see through lace tank that is one of my most recent purchases from forever 21.  My favorite part of this top is the neck line that look like a pearl necklace.  It adds a little something, something to a lace tank!
A charming outfit can be very subjective, but I must say there is something about lace and sheer and bow accent shoes that make me feel a little alluring and pleasing!! : )

FDPC Day 24. printed shorts

FASHION DAILY Photo Challenge
Day 24. printed shorts

The time has come back to wear patterns all over your bottom half.  What was usually considered eccentric and bold is now the everyday style.  If you wear only jeans, kakis, or black slacks you are probably categorized as being conservative and safe.  Isn't it unfair how quickly styles change and what your entire closet is styled around could be considered "unwearable" in a matter of months.  Don't listen to it.  I think any article of clothing can fit into every season as long as you style it accordingly.  I purchased these printed shorts that I am wearing years ago at Urban Outfitters.  When I wore them about two years ago they were looked at as being soo strange.  Now you see shorts like theses everywhere in stores.  I am excited that strong, bold, patterns are so popular because it means that they are much easier to find but it doesn't mean in two years from now when they are nowhere in sight that I will throw my collections in the trash.  It just means that I will have to continue to create a new way to incorporate what I already have into the styles of the moment!  Story of my life : )  I decided to pair these printed shorts with my favorite polka dot tights and my always exciting gold sequence heels.  I topped it off with a green sheer button up from H&M and an amazing snap tie that I found at Goodwill in Florida last year!  People check out Goodwill, I am telling you, if you are down to hunt you are able to find so many gems.  I went bold with the this outfit, but that does not mean you have to go bold when wearing printed shorts.  You could wear them with a solid color baggy top that hangs over the waist line so that only the bottom half of the shorts peek out for a more subtle look.  Or you could mix and match the printed shorts with a different type of patterned top for an even stronger statement!! OOOO soo many options!!

FDPC Day 23 Bright Orange

FASHION DAILY Photo Challenge
Day 23. bright orange

Orange is one of the main color of this season.  Orange is EVERYWHERE and it demands attention!  I personally love this color because this was the theme color for the benefit show that I put on called VITALITY, which was also my wedding day.  So I have some close ties with Orange.  We dont realize how much colors affect our mood and our energy.  When I was creating my show a few months ago I decided to do a lot of research about colors to find the perfect one that would represent my relationship with my husband.  Thats how I decided on orange for the theme of my show/wedding.  I have read that wearing orange during times of stress, or shock can  helo to balance your emotions.  It can bring out the willingness to embrace new ideas with enjoyment and a sense of exploration and creative play.  Orange is said to increase creativity and appetite and it means vitality and endurance.  It is also associated with warmth, sexuality and adventure.
I thought that was some interesting facts to share!! My outfit today, I must admit definitely changed my mood.  These shorts were purchased very recently from forever 21 and this was the first time wearing them.  Which is also very exciting.  If you are afraid of being so bold in your style, I would say go orange first to push you forward.  I think its one of those colors that looks good on almost anyone, and it brings so much joy!!

FDPC Day 21. comfy

FASHION DAILY Photo Challenge
Day 21. comfy

This one might be my favorite word so far.  Comfy is more then often what I strive toward in my style. I dont like being uncomfortable but I do know when sacrifices need to be made for the love of the art!!  The fashion trends right now have been putting comfortability up front and center.  Baggy, draped pieces are in, in, in and I love, love, love it.  Now we must be careful when approaching this trend because looking "comfortable" is not always a good thing.  Sometimes that is a translation for looking "sloppy." EEEKkkk
This dress I bought recently from the sale rack at Urban Outfitters.  Their sale racks are too darn good that they steer me away from ever shopping in the rest of the store!  Anyway, when I put this on in the dressing room I didn't even have to contemplate buying it.  I instantly saw myself gravitating towards wearing this all the time and I had to have it.  Its not just one of those baggy, box dresses.  It falls in a way that shows off some curves while having movement.  I could lounge around the house in this dress, I could sleep in this dress, I could run errands in this dress, I could go to the beach in this dress, and I could even throw on a belt, a sassy necklace, some heels and go to dinner in this dress.  What do you think of that?  Cant say that about too many things now can you?  Now I feel like the word of the day is versatile and not comfy.  Guess I got a little side tracked.
Dressing comfortable is all about the fit.  Its when we start wearing things that dont really fit us that we feel restricted.  I immediately just thought of a waist belt.  Yes, I love them and they can add so much to your figure but, there is nothing comfortable about going out with a non stretchy waist belt to restrain your every breathe.  I have come to realize that the belts I tend to wear all the time are the ones that have elastic in them, so I dont have to loosen it after dinner!! I recommend purchasing elastic waist belts to help stay comfy while keeping the look you want.  You'll thank me I promise!

FDPC Day 20. sheer

FASHION DAILY Photo Challenge
Day 20. sheer
It used to be completely inappropriate and trashy to wear something see through.  Your underwear is only worn for support not to be seen right...WRONG!!  Haha, now if it is done properly you can show your undergarments and be classy, who would have thought?  I see girls do it all the time and I love it.  I think it is so sexy but I must admit it is a hard one for me to pull off sometimes.  I get very self conscious about looking too.... scandalous.  I usually wear a tank underneath anything sheer if it is to be worn during the day time.  Night time is where I find it a little easier to get away with.  This outfit I created is definitely an evening get up.  I took a long brown sheer top that I purchased from forever 21 and put it under a black skirt that I bought online from this amazing japanese website called yesstlye.  Thank you Logan for getting me hooked on that thing!  Anyway, I wanted to wear something over the sheer top that would enable it to poke out on the bottom almost creating the illusion that its all one dress.  Then I took this amazingly large belt that I purchased from goodwill to synch the waist and hide all the excess fabric of the sheer top that I pulled out of the skirt to bring the bottom to my desired length.  To top the whole outfit off I threw on my light blue pointed toe sling backs that I purchased at my FAVORITE thrift store in las vegas Savers.  Whenever I am looking for something comfortable and flirty, but dressy and classy I search for something sheer.    Its the quickest and most cozy option to help make you look dressed up and put together.  As long as you are not showing too much skin under there.  Keep it clean now you hear!

FDPC Day 19. One of a kind

You can't help but feel good when you put something on and you KNOW, no one else has it, has seen it, or can get it. Some people like to think that what they wear says nothing about who they are. Ahhhhh!!! That is called denial my friends! For some people it is hard to understand that your apparel is a part of who you are. Everything you do, everything you say, everything you chose to spend time on makes up all the little things that are YOU! Your clothes make a statement about YOU no matter how little time you spend on it. How you dress is your own personal art form, it is another way to express your point of view without having to say a thing. It is worth spending some time developing your voice through your wardrobe, no matter how difficult, easy, or time consuming that may be. It will help you feel more confident, more proud, and more important. It will help YOU feel "one of a kind!"
My one of a kind piece in this photo, besides myself, hehe, is the purple jumpsuit. I bought it last year when I was biking through Amsterdam and stopped at a flea market in the middle of the street. There was a stand that had all vintage clothes and of course I tried on everything. This one stood out to me because it was a one of a kind, hand made item and I had never seen anything like it. I know it's not normal to get a lot of joy out of hunting for a unique item as much as I do but now every time I wear it I can't help but feel good and I think anyone could relate to that. When you put something on an instantly feel strong and unique, you don't have to worry about being compared to anyone else. Unfortunately my husband thinks I spend a little too much time developing my voice through my wardrobe. ;) I blame it on my mother! And I wouldn't have it any other way!

FASHION DAILY Photo Challenge Day 18. Pastels

Pastels are no longer worn only on Easter Sunday. This delicate, soft, dreamy color palate is now used for every type of occasion. It might seem a little too delicate for some tastes at first but there is a way to incorporate pastels in almost everyone's wardrobe. Literally every article of clothing could not be worn in a solid pastel color. If you want to dive in and play with this trend go strong with a pastel denim and pair it with a complimentary pastel top perhaps with a pattern or color blocking. If you want to ease your way in maybe try it with accessories like a pastel purse or necklace. If your somewhere in the middle try a pastel cardigan or blazer and pair it with a metallic necklace!! Ooo that idea just made me want to go get a blazer, haha!! Any pastel item will instantly make your outfit current, and romantic! I found this website that has some great help on how to wear pastels in more detail.
http://www.squidoo.com/fashion-2012-pastel-colors
The dress that I am wearing I picked up at a vintage store in Montreal a little over 4 years ago. I was going to wear it on its own but I felt like I looked a little too much like a ballerina. So I chose this sheer button up shirt from Top Shop to break up the color and make it a little more sophisticated and a little less innocent. I chose this skinny belt that I stole from my mom, thanks mom ;), to tie in my sandals from target, and to add a waist line without a large distraction. This look could easily move for day to night by just adding a heel!!!
Share your pastel ideas!

FDPC day 17. Asymmetrical

FASHION DAILY Photo Challenge
Day 17. asymmetrical

Asymmetrical lines are everywhere in fashion.  They first started to creep into cardigans and jackets, where the back was short and the front was long.  Then it started moving into tops, skirts and dresses.  It is very popular to see these items where the fabric is short in the front and loooong in the back.  I think it is a very fun style to play with.  Its screams playful and sexy.  It gives you a little peep in the front and then a tad more elegance in the back.  It also creates an great opportunity to play around with layers, which I LOVE!!!  This top/dress that I am wearing I picked up at a flea market in Japan last year.  I was not quite sure what it was at first and it took a little help from a friend to understand that it was a wrap.  It is designed so that the bottom part of the dress wraps around my waist where there is a button to hold it in place on side and tie on the other.  Its adorable all wrapped up, but a friend of mine gave me the idea to just wear it open.  Which I thought was brilliant.  Thank you Tracy Shibata!!!
For this outfit I took the part of the fabric that was placed to tie the skirt together and wrapped it around the front of my waist and pinned it to my left side to act as a belt!  Quick little changes to make a wrap dress into a funky asymmetrical shirt/skirt/thing.  : )

FASHION DAILY Photo Challenge Day 16. plain white t

FASHION DAILY Photo Challenge
Day 16. Plain white T

There is nothing more versatile then a plain white t, and no I am not talking about the band : )  Whenever you dont have time to spend on putting together an outfit, or you're just fed up with searching through your closet, you can always depend on a plain white t to save the day.  A plain white t is anything but plain.  Its clean, simple, playful and sophisticated.  You can pair it with just about anything.  I used to rely so much on the plain white t, that I would never venture out.  Now its not my safe hiding place, its just another addition to my style and a staple in my wardrobe.  Every woman, man, girl and boy should own a comfortable, fitted, plain white t.  I would also say that it is something worth splurging on.  I know sometimes you go into a store and question why a plain white t would be so expensive and you never pick it up.  Next time try it on, and ask yourself how much better it feels then the hanes t's that you get from Target.  Take into consideration how much wear you will get out of it and ask your self if it is worth spending money on something that might just be one of the most worn items in your closet.  I just recently purchased this plain white t from American Eagle on the sale rack.  It was only $20 but normally I would pass because its just a plain white t, however I thought about how many times I look into my closet searching for a white t that is not my boyfriends undershirt and find myself disappointed.  I have a feeling that I will be wearing this t more then I wear any of my other t's because it just goes with EVERYTHING!!

FASHION DAILY Photo Challenge Day 15. Whimsical

Right now there are lots of whimsical influences in the fashion trends. Everywhere you are seeing light, flowy, dream like fabrics and lots of patterns that include birds, feathers and other ethereal inspired shapes. I love this trend because it is very easy to wear, its comfortable and casual yet extremely easy to dress up for most every occasion.
I must say that I quite like representing nature on my clothes. I will give birds a shout out anytime!

FASHION DAIlY Photo Challenge Day 14. Mad Men

Ever since the hit tv series "Mad Men" aired in 2007, the style of the 1960's has been making its way into stores. Banana Republic even brought in the costumer designer of the show, Janie Bryant, TWICE, to help them create a "Mad Men" collection. The Banana Republic Mad Men collection hit stores in August of 2011 and March of this year. This was the first time Banana Republic had ever worked with an outside designer. But it definitely paid off at the beginning of this year when Banana Republic's North American same-store sales rose 5 percent in three months. According to Bloomberg, that's the most in the last two years.
So clearly Mad Men has made a major influence on the styling of today. The dress that I am wearing happened to be an incredible present that was given to me years ago by an amazing friend who purchased it from the Bettie Page store in Las Vegas. Thanks Angela, you really know how to choose em, because you just couldn't get more spot on for me!! It's such an amazing feeling when you realize the people around you just...get you!
And if you have not seen the show Mad Men, check it out. Especially for the fashion, if nothing else!!!

FASHION DAILY Photo Challenge
Day 12. Mix + Match

I used to be the girl that had only solid colored items in her closet.  I was afraid of patterns and even more afraid to mix and match them.  Now I am always looking for something with an amazing pattern, and I am constantly looking to mix and match my patterns together.  It definitely takes some getting used to, but the key is to trust your eye and keep working on it.  Look through some magazines to get an idea of what  mix and matched patterns you gravitate toward.  That will give you a jumping off point, some, inspiration.  When you go into your closet, start with a item that you want to wear, and hold it next to your other items.  Its just like pairing the right belt with a dress.  Trust your instink and your eye will guide you.  Be open to it and actually try them on, because most of your clothes do not look half as good on the hanger as they do on your body!!!  I started off with this coral, floral, (haha that rhymes) tube top romper from H&M.  I wanted to wear something over it so I didn't have to wear a strapless, ladies you know how that is.  I came across this top very hesitant, but as soon as I tried it on and synched the waist with a belt I adored it!  This shirt that I am wearing was actually a dress that I found at the $1 sale at Jet Rag years ago. ( side bar, if you are a hunter for a bargain and have not been to the Jet Rag $1 sale, you must go.  Its in Hollywood every Sunday) Anyway the dress had a stain on the lower part of the dress but I loved the colors and pattern so much that I took it and cut it to make it into a top!!!  When you have some time, jump into that closet and play!!  Do not be afraid of color and patterns.  They like each other!!

FDPC Day 11. Neon

FASHION DAILY Photo Challenge
Day 11. Neon
Neon is sooo bright!!  How can you not smile when seeing anything neon?  Its impossible.  It also screams SUMMER TIME!!!  I think neon can be very intimidating when it comes to your wardrobe because its close to impossible to wear without being noticed and attracting a lot of attention.  But it is a must try for the summer.  If you are slightly apprehensive to neon try starting off with a solid color neon item and mixing it with your every day favorite item.  Try neon shorts with your favorite t, or a neon tank with your favorite jeans, or a neon cardigan/jacket with your favorite neutral solored dress.  I guarantee you will not be walking around with a frown, and you will notice that no who looks at you will be either.  When you start to become more comfortable with all the attention try mix and matching different neons together or with patterns.  It will be hard at first to get used to so many bright colors next to one another but once you find a color combination that you agree you will never turn back!!!  My neon cardigan is from the sale rack at Old Navy years more then 3 years ago and my floral print crop top tank I got at a a thrift store on Ventura just a few weeks back.  I didn't have a neon colored belt that matched the color I was looking for so I took a piece of blue ribbon that I had lying around and tied it around my waist with the bow in the back.  The head wrap is actually just a long skinny scarf that I got as a present from American Apparel.  I wrapped it around my head three times then tied it into a knot at the top, then I just tucked the end pieces under the wrap and presto chango its a head wrap!!!!

FASHION DAILY Photo Challenge Day 10. Tribal

Tribal... Hmm. Lots of different types of patterns are very popular right now and what I discovered this morning while searching for my most "tribal" inspired item, was that it was hard to find something that had one style pattern on it. I was having a difficult time differentiating what would be considered "tribal" and what would be considered "aztec," so I did some research. Right now the trend is to just blend together ethnic patterns. But if I were to pull apart tribal patterns I would say they tend to be not as geometrical, and a little more free form. Inspired more by nature and animals. This skirt that I'm wearing is actually a tube top dress that is too big for me, so I tucked in the top part of the dress and tied the attached fabric around my waist to keep it tight. You would never know!!!

FDPC Day 9. Vertical stripes

Today's photo shoot was a blast. I had so much fun playing with my hooded cardigan that it made it really hard for me to choose one photo for today, so I asked friends and majority ruled this to be the one to use!
When I created this photo challenge I thought to myself, "you have so many vertical stripe options, that one will be easy." Side bar, if I am stating a thought that I had, do I put quotations around it? Hmmm anyway
Come to find out this morning, that most of my striped items are horizontal. Which helped me realize why I have been gravitating toward this top so much recently. Conclusion is... I need more vertical striped clothes. Why you ask, because vertical stripes are much more flattering then horizontal stripes. Having vertical lines on your body create a visual of length, by elongating the area it's covering. I also think vertical lines typically have a classier more mature look to them. You usually see them in pin striped pants, or a nice button up shirt and horizontal stripes tend to me much more casual. But don't think I am putting down horizontal stripes by any means, because I think they are great too. I just think its important to have both. Check your closet. Odds are if you are more of a casual dresser you'll have more horizontal stripe options then vertical. (that's me, but I'm looking to cross over!) ☺

FASHION DAILY Photo Challenge
DAY 8. Your favorite jeans

This one was a no brainer.  I live in these jeans.  Yes I bought them with tears in them, yes they have expanded since I bought them and yes that is a sticker tag on the bottom of my shoe from Goodwill that reads $5.09.  : )  The jeans were a solid purchase I made from Forever21 over three years ago that I dont think cost more then $25.  Brilliant!!  And the checkered shirt was an item off the sale rack at Urban Outfitters!
I must admit that  I have a really hard time wearing any item twice within the same month.  But these jeans have broken that mold and are now outside the "once a month" stigma I have.  They are just so darn comfortable.  I would consider these jeans to be a "boyfriend fit," even though they were much smaller on me when I first purchased them.  I think the name is pretty self explanatory but a "boyfriend fit" jean is something I would advice you to have in your closet.  They are completely wearable for numerous occasions.  Add a heel and you are good for an evening out!!!  They have a great look without looking like your trying to hard.

FASHION DAILY Photo Challenge Day 7. Nautical

I have had this dress in my closet for almost a year and this is the first time I have worn it!!! That makes me so happy! I purchased it from Goodwill in Florida when I was home visiting my family. When I bought the dress the hem was down by my calves. My mom helped shorten the hem to make it more young and flirty. Whenever you are wanting to wear a vintage dress but feel a little homely in it, shorten the hem line. That instantly changes the look and steers you away from looking dated!

FASHION DAILY Photo Challenge Day 6. lace

I was spending all this time last night going through my clothes, looking at all of my "lace" items, completely forgetting I have the best "lace" inspired item of all. My WEDDING DRESS!!!! This photo was taken in the dressing room of Polkadots and Moonbeams, 5 days before my surprise wedding. It was the third dress I tried on during my last minute hunt for the perfect dress. Everything just seemed to fall right into place. Now, I know you saw the words surprise wedding and I just kind of breezed past it, but that's a whole other story that I promise I will cover soon! Lace has been commonly used for wedding dresses forever, but now lace is commonly used for every occasion. Mixing lace with something that would typically be considered wrong is SOOO right now! Lace on a pair of sneakers, lace on a jean jacket, lace shorts that aren't only worn in the bedroom. Lace has brought the 2012 fashion from the bedroom to the street while being romantic not naughty. ( I know where your head was at). But it's definitely flirty and fun! It didn't take me long to join the lace race.

FASHION DAILY Photo Challenge Day 5. Nails

The last time I remember ever spending this much time on my nails I was in the 5th grade and I was putting a full ROY G BIV rainbow on each finger. Since then nail art has not been a large form of expression. Now every where you look someone is creating innovative nail designs for everyday wear. Nothing seems to be out of the ordinary. I think it's exciting, I just wish I was not such a perfectionist so it didn't take me forever to do a simple two toned manicure! But now with the Sally Hensen nail decals you can spend a couple extra dollars and stick the color on. I have only used them once but I must say they last much longer then any nail polish I have ever used!

FASHION DAILY Photo Challenge Day 4. Chunky

Chunky is IN!!! Today I chose to showcase a chunky necklace, but I had a really hard time deciding that because there are so many different fun "chunky" items to chose from. Such as chunky bracelets, chunky heels, chunky earrings, or rings, chunky scarfs or sweaters, anything knitted, chunky belts. I wanted to say the list goes on and on, but that about covers it all! ;). My advice for accessorizing with something chunky is to start with one item at a time. It can be tricky pairing a chunky item with other accessories. So start simple, go big and bold with one item. It will never be boring. Have fun and play around. Don't be shy, anything chunky will be a statement on its own!

FASHION DAILY Photo Challenge DAY 3. Gold

Now I have to start off talking about about these amazing Gold sequence shorts! These shorts are worth more money then the entire outfit combined because they are Armani Exchange. But don't be fooled, I didn't buy them. they were a costume piece that I wore when I was tour with Ricky Martin last year. At the end of the tour we were allowed to take an item of clothing from our wardrobe. What a gift! Sp lucky, THANK you Ricky! I will be back tomorrow to finish going through the rest of my outfit! I am running out of life on my phone and I am out of town with no charger!!!!

FASHION DAILY PHOTO CHALLENGE DAY 2. Classic

You can never go wrong with classic pieces. Classic is clean, simple, very refined and never dated. That said I purchased this shirt from Urban Outfitters over 5 years ago. The black pencil skirt is from a consignment store that I came across in Manchester last year. And the shoes are from Council Thrift Store on Ventura in Study City.
*There is nothing more Classic then a good black pencil skirt paired with a white button up!* Well...I guess there might be but I'll let my opinion stand!

FASHION DAILY
PHOTO A DAY CHALLENGE

DAY 1. OVERSIZED

This is my first post for my FASHION DAILY Photo Challenge.  Day 1 is OVERSIZED.
I deconstructed an out dated, oversized silk/lace blouse that I purchased from Goodwill and wore it over a Gilligan by GOM slip from Target.  I paired it with a stripped oxford shoe from Forever21 and tied it together with my own creation of the western bow tie.  I took an undone skinny tie and clasped it together with a bow hair clip.  Unfortunately I do not have a photo of the blouse before I deconstructed it but the end product has fabric that ties in the back allowing the garment to have more form for my figure.
: )   I am all about styling without standards.  I shop from anywhere that attracts my creative side while keeping my bank account in mind.  There is no shame in my game. Yes Goodwill and I have a very lovely relationship!!!

WELCOME

So this is my first post ever onto my very own blog.  For those who know me know that I am pretty unfamiliar with most of the advances in social networking.  So here I am teaching myself and learning how to share with the world!  This blog was inspired by another blogger by the name of @fatmumslim
Her blog sparked a little creative fire under my a*# and has given me reason to talk on a blog.   I am a die hard fan of... wait for it.... FASHION.  My mother teaches at #IADT International Academy of Design and Technology in Tampa and I have been around fashion shows, photoshoots, fashion students, just FASHION in general, my whole life.  Now I am a professional dancer living in Los Angeles and as you may not know, dancers are known for their funky fashion.  So I have this fun mix of fashion embedded into my bones.  I want to continue to push myself to explore my embedded fashion bones and this blog is my jumping off point.  When I was talking about this with my husband, ahhhh I said HUSBAND... sorry, anyway, my husband came up with this adorable tag line which is my new motto
"Make every day your runway"
That pretty much summarizes exactly how I feel.  No matter where you are, or what you are doing, YOU have a spot light, YOU are a trend, YOU make a difference, YOU should be seen!!!!
